The German Federal Nutrition Center has stated that potassium deficiency in the body is due to several reasons, including the excretion of potassium by the kidneys due to excessive secretion of aldosterone or cortisol by the body in what the is called hyperaldosteronism (Conn’s syndrome) or hypercortisolism.
Potassium deficiency can also be due to overuse of laxatives, frequent vomiting, or diarrhea.
