Plans aim to cut carbon dioxide emissions from new vans and cars by 100% by 2035, which would mean imposing a de facto ban on sales, as part of a broader package to tackle climate change .
The European Union aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels, and to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
