Coping with premenstrual depression

 

The German Central Institute for Mental Health said premenstrual depression is a disorder that affects women about a week to 10 days before their period.

The German Institute said that the causes of this disorder are probably due to hormonal disorders, such as the sudden decrease in the hormone “serotonin” known as the “happiness hormone”.

Psychological symptoms:

Nervous behavior.

Awakening speed.

Mood swings

The fear.

Anxiety.

Depression.

Tendency to cry.

Loss of interest in work, family, friends, and hobbies

Physical symptoms:

Abdominal and back pain.

Headache.

Poor concentration.

Sleep disorders.

Muscular weakness

Coping with premenstrual depression:

The center said premenstrual depression disorders can be combated through a healthy, balanced diet, exercise, and relaxation and meditation techniques.

In severe cases, psychotherapy may be used, which includes drug therapy with antidepressants and cognitive-behavioral therapy, in which women learn to manage the psychological stress associated with menstruation.
