Runny nose, sore throat, fever, and feeling weak. Symptoms that may affect you in the summer and be diagnosed with “summer flu”.
This infection is caused by viruses known as “enteroviruses”, which infect the upper respiratory tract, and rarely the lower respiratory tract such as bronchi. These viruses cause inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nose, sinuses, and throat, and disturbing symptoms such as: sore throat, difficulty swallowing, coughing, and hoarseness, in addition to swollen lymph nodes, as well as suffering from headache, pain, and fever that impacts the entire body.
The difference in the severity of symptoms
Summer flu can be distinguished from the “real” flu by the severity of the symptoms. Symptoms of this type of influenza appear suddenly and severely. Within a short period of time, the person feels lethargic, usually has a high temperature, and needs to rest. On the other hand, the symptoms of summer flu are not serious and disappear on their own after a few days.
How is summer flu transmitted?
The viruses responsible for the common cold are transmitted by what is known as a droplet infection. Sneezing and coughing spread the virus through the air. But viruses can also get into the body through direct contact, for example by shaking hands and then touching your mouth. Once the virus is established in the body, infection occurs before the first symptoms appear. The infection is most severe in the first two to three days or more after the onset of symptoms.
